The Relay 2026 Benefit Concert is happening again this year at the Garrick Theatre. Music Night is hosted by a local group who fund raise for the Daffodil Place, with all proceeds after costs going to the Daffodil Place.

Full-tilt, hardcore, down-home, and groundbreaking, the women of country music speak volumes with every song. From Maybelle Carter to Dolly Parton, K.D Lang to young Taylor Swift - these artists provided pivot points, truths and doses of courage for woman writers at every stage of their lives.
Join award winning songwriter Sherry Ryan and singer/songwriter Andrea Monro as they lead you through the last 60 years of women of country music. Songs and stories are woven together to create a memorable night of the women who paved the way for so many, while giving a voice to those who needed it most.
Navigators Duo
The Navigator’s have become of NL’s most well-known recording and live bands since forming in 2000. Their original writing and compositions inspired some of the music in the now world-famous musical Come From Away, currently playing at the Gander Arts and Culture Centre. Writing hits like Dance and Sing, Pulling Oil From the Sand, and Living in the 709, the band has been presented on multiple TV and Radio programs for over 2 decades. Most recently being featured on the Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown on CNN and 20th Century Fox’s show The Simpsons both in 2019.
With their distinctive blend of traditional and original music the award-winning group has performed and toured all over Canada, the US, and Europe and have released four full award-winning studio CDs. Currently the band consists of the father and son team of Arthur and Aiden O’Brien as vocalists who include acoustic/electric guitar, fiddle, bass, keyboards, piano accordion and bouzouki as instrumentation.
The group often includes well known multi-instrumentalist Dave Fitzpatrick from the Fables on drums and vocals or bass. Darryl Chafe, a Travis-picking aficionado also holds down the low end on the Bass while contributing to guitar duties at some shows. St. John’s native, button accordion phenom Graham Wells adds the vocals, accordion, bodhran, and tin whistle. While founding member and ultra-popular vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Fred Jorgensen recovers from some very serious health issues, the band continues it’s journey but anxiously wait for Fred’s return hopefully in the new year! Jim Kieley a member almost handles many of the drum duties, while Greg Forward of Woody Pojnt, is a contributor on the bass for some of the touring shows.

Mick Davis is a Canadian singer-songwriter & founder of the internationally acclaimed rock group, The Novaks. As a guest musician, Mick has performed on stage with Big Sugar, Sloan & The John Prine Band. Mick is the recipient of numerous MusicNL & ECMA awards. In 2025, Mick earned MusicNL's prestigious Ron Hynes Songwriter of the Year Award & a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award for his composition "Vibrations".
Mick's touring & recording outfit, Thin Love, features Jill Porter (guitar), Craig Follett (bass) & Allan Brake (drums). Together they have shared the stage with Bush, Collective Soul & The Glorious Sons.

Roger Howse & Sandy Morris have, together, some 100+ years of experience on stage, in radio and tv and in the recording studio. Old Man Luedecke
Old Man Luedecke is the recording name of two time JUNO award winning and Polaris prize nominated singer songwriter Chris Luedecke. A multiple East Coast Music Award winner known for his high energy banjo driven stompers, touching guitar ballads and dry humorous stories, Luedecke has been making a soundtrack to an authentic life for nearly twenty years.
Born in Toronto and long time resident of the country near Chester Nova Scotia, Luedecke began recording in the early 2000’s DIY folk scene of Halifax. He made his two JUNO winning albums for Black Hen Music in the late 00s with Steve Dawson as producer at Vancouver’s famed Factory studio. While on a tour of England in 2009, he met and supported folk roots legend Tim O’Brien who produced Luedecke’s next two albums. Tender is the Night was recorded at John’s Prine’s Butcher Shoppe Studio in Nashville in 2012 and 2015’s Domestic Eccentric was recorded in a cabin Luedecke built himself at his home in NS. 2019 saw Luedecke recording Easy Money at both the Banff Centre in Alberta and at Hotel2Tango in Montreal.
Songs like I quit my Job at the beginning of his career and the Early Days at the beginning of his family and dozens of other fan favourites trace a warm line of effort, sadness and joy and provide a soundtrack to many peoples’ own progress through adulthood, touching a rare place of truth and charm in the holiness of the mundane. His performing style with his easy going humour and storytelling creates a rare space of hopeful and intimate magic.
Luedecke has kept up many worldwide concert appearances, playing in Europe and around Canada and the USA and six trips to Australia, including a memorable tour where his whole young family travelled with him around rural Queensland for the Festival of Small Halls.
In May 2022 Luedecke was awarded an honorary doctorate from King’s University in Halifax for his cultural contributions.
Taso Kipiani & Cèlia Margalef Boquera
Taso Kipiani is a Georgian-British concert pianist based in London. Described as having a strong sense of originality and artistic authority in her performances, she regularly performs in venues across London, Europe and internationally. Coming up in the 2026 season, Taso will be performing in the UK, Spain, France and Georgia. Taso began her musical studies at the age of five at Z. Paliashvili Central Music School in Tbilisi and then graduated from one of London’s top Conservatoires, finishing her Masters degree with a first class honours. Currently she is studying with Professor Nikolay Medvedev in Berlin. Her performance has been praised by the renowned pianist Dr. Ji Liu as “thrilling, well-prepared, and showing both technical brilliance and musical maturity…thoroughly refined and thoughtful, with powerful yet warm playing.”
Cèlia Margalef Boquera is a Catalan pianist based in London, with an active performing career across the UK, Spain, and internationally. Recent highlights include a solo recital at the Barcelona Obertura Ciutat de Clàssica Festival at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona (2026), and a performance of J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations at the Toca’m Piano Festival in Tortosa (2022). She is a First Prize winner of the John Longmire Beethoven Competition (2024) and the Trinity Laban English Song Competition (2025), and received the Best Spanish Pianist “Rosa Sabater” Prize at the 8th Vigo International Piano Competition (2024). In the 2026 season, her engagements include appearances in London and other UK cities, as well as Barcelona, Mallorca, and Lanzarote. Cèlia studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona and at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.

Andrew Smith Band
Following the release of his debut album, Spent, last summer, Andrew Smith and his band continue to carve out their own brand of alternative country in St. John's, Newfoundland. Inspired by the twang of pedal steel and vocal inflections, they blend folk and rock 'n' roll with the spirit of outlaw country from the 1960s and '70s. On any given night, the boys are sure to deliver a heavy mix of original songs and timeless country classics.

The Penguin Lessons
Craving a better movie with superior story-telling, exceptional character development, and solid acting and direction? We can help with that! This Summer The Garrick will begin bringing you the best in independent film through a new initiative in partnership with MUN Cinema.
Dr. Noreen Golfman, a long time professor of English and administrator at Memorial University who regularly taught film studies, founded both the St. John's International Women's Film Festival (1989) and the MUN Cinema Series (1991). Now retired from Memorial, every Fall and Winter Noreen continues to lead MUN Cinema, presenting a program at St. John's of critically acclaimed, independent films from around the world.
MUN Cinema will now share its programming, including Noreen's insightful film descriptions, with the Garrick for a new series under, MUN Cinema @ the Garrick. Throughout the calendar year, we will present a minimum of 12 offerings from the current or previous year's program. Film nights may vary, but will normally be Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Sunday afternoons are also likely during the darker months.
We are launching MUN Cinema @ the Garrick this Friday (August 7 @ 8:00 p.m.) with The Penguin Lessons.
The Penguin Lessons

Based on the real-life story of a guy named Tom Michell, PENGUIN LESSONS showcases Steve Coogan as that guy, a shy teacher of English trying to teach entitled rich kids at a boarding school in Argentina. During a break, Michell travels to Uruguay where he ends up rescuing a penguin from an oil spill. Not able to shake the animal, he ends up bringing it back home with him. It’s 1976 and a dictatorship is taking over the country, and so hiding anything, let alone a penguin, is definitely a liability. As you might tell, the film sets a comic plot against a dark and deadly period of history, not an easy task for the filmmakers. Coogan is, as always, a delight, supported by a strong cast who serve the movie well as characters caught in a brutal historical moment. The penguin is, of course, irresistible.
