Jodee + Nicole

Nicole Hand and Jodee Richardson are established professional Newfoundland artists who now work as a composing/arranging/performing duo, both on their own and as part of larger projects. As Jodee + Nicole, the two have performed together frequently throughout their 15-month partnership, reimagining original songs and beloved covers for various concert series and festivals as well as making regular appearances at the Black Sheep and Sláinte in St. John’s. Their duo sound is a blend of their individual strengths and results in a variety of instrument combinations, drawing from acoustic guitar, saxophones, piano, vocals, melodica and omnichord. They have played to large theatres and intimate rooms with their set of well-known tunes of all genres, featuring original songs, stories and recitations inspired by Newfoundland culture and experiences. Aside from their independent careers, Jodee and Nicole have shared the stage as rock musicians over the years with collaborations between the Pathological Lovers/Fur Packed Action and members of saxophone band Ouroboros as recently as June 2023. The two also overlap in the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, where Nicole plays bassoon and Jodee is a frequent featured artist, and Perchance Theatre, where they both work on the creative design and performance teams throughout the summer season.

Taking On Water

The 2023 Tuckamore Festival is premiering a new work, Taking on Water, featuring actors Robert Chafe and Louise Moyse, alongside Tuckamore Festival Artistic Directors Nancy Dahn and Timothy Steeves. In the fall of 2021, playwright Robert Chafe set out on an interview tour of eastern Newfoundland, asking residents of coastal communities why they live where they live, and how they might see their future. The response revealed tales of unprecedented challenge, boundless optimism, and some things stranger than fiction. Taking on Water marries the music of Randolph Peters as played by Duo Concertante with five original magic realism stories by Chafe, that offer a new way to think about the love, risk, and resilience of living on the edge of a changing ocean. After the main festival from August 7-20, Taking on Water is going on tour, appearing at the Garrick on August 26!
